Pushing on a string

While the American/Western worldview holds that we are autonomous individuals exercising free will at every moment, in reality we are all heavily programmed by our socio-economic class conditions. What is so striking about present-day America is the way in which the narcissistic, no-moral-compass social pathologies of entitlement, denial and fabrication of "truth"/reality has been "normalized" (accepted as normal behavior and thinking) in all social classes.

Charles Hugh Smith has a good piece on the rot in society and why it is so hard to fight against it.

As a parent, it frustrates me to see this mechanism at work while trying to show my children a better way.

Thought for the day....

There will always be a society. Meaning (to me) an organization run by a sociopath class, with a sycophant class, and lots and lots of true-believing dumbasses. These three groups are what history is. The trick is to be part of the sycophant class or - failing that - a pretend dumbasses. Wave the flag, watch the eagle, keep your mouth shut, but know that the sociopaths WILL happily kill the dumbasses for fun and profit - all you can do as an invisible dumbass is to slowly move yourself - and your kids - to the back of the pack of dumbasses - away from the line of fire.
